Week 37 in Our Homeschool
Bible: We finished our study on the Books of Moses from Real Life Press.
History: We finished reading through the text of Famous Men of Rome. We did not do all of the questions in the student guide for the last several chapters, but I really wanted to finish the reading. When you review different products, you don't always have a chance to finish what you start. I really liked Famous Men of Rome and wanted to finish it. The children really enjoyed the readings.
Art/Music: Alex worked on the next lesson in Drums With Willie. I had some technical issues playing the video, but their customer service was very good trying to help me resolve my problem. We did not do an art project this week.
Grammar/Writing/Literature: We did lesson 5 of Fix It! 1 and 2. Anthony did his assignment on pillbugs from SWI A. Nick is working on Dynamic Literacy and Cursive Logic.
Math: Christian, Anthony, and Alex are working on CTC Math, an online math program, completing one lesson per day.
Reading/Spelling: Christian and Anthony completed Lesson 22 of All About Reading Level 2 and Alex completed steps 6 and 7 of All About Spelling Level 5.
My Father's World Creation From A to Z
Our unit this week was "V" for vegetables. The Bible lesson was "God Gives Me All That I Need." Lily completed all of the assigned worksheets, but we did not do any of the hands on activities. We had done all of them before. She spends a lot of time in the garden we planted a few weeks ago looking at the plants we planted and waiting for some to grow! We read Peter Rabbit for our books this week.
Other Activities This Week:
Monday: Archery was cancelled due to an illness. The girls and I ran a couple of errands and delivered some food.
Tuesday and Wednesday we had nothing exciting happening.
Thursday: We had archery practice. The children also got to hold a baby raccoon. We went to Sonic for Happy Hour slushies because it was hot! Then we went to Walmart and did our grocery shopping.
One thing about taking your children shopping with you starting at a young age. They know where to find everything in the store which is very helpful when you forget something and are at the checkout :)
Friday: We met Chelsea over at the park. The main play area is still roped off because of the damage from the tornado but there are two other smaller play areas. They played for an hour, but they were in the sun and it was hot. We grabbed some lunch and did a few errands before heading home to some cleaning and pizza and a movie. Our movie was Swiss Family Robinson and while it is a decent movie, it is NOTHING like the book, which the children kept saying over and over.
Saturday: Since our remodel of the room upstairs, I have wanted to put a coffee table for the children to play games on or do puzzles and some book shelves. Saturday our local furniture store was having a sale so Art took me over there to pick something out. He told me to buy whatever I wanted. Well, the "sale" prices really were not that great and I did not find anything I really wanted. They did not even have any bookshelves in the show room. So I didn't buy anything. Art needed something from Walmart so we ran over there real quick. I had wanted to get the children a pool. Our last one bit the dust the summer before last and last year all they had was a sprinkler. So we walked by the pools and they were on rollback and a really good deal. So instead of furniture, I bought a pool, but the children will enjoy it much more than an over priced coffee table. And while at Walmart I did buy some inexpensive shelves that I liked. You never have enough book shelves!
It took 19 hours to fill the pool but they had a chance to swim last night before bed.

I'll bet holding that baby raccoon was the highlight of the week . . . either that or the new pool! :) Makes me wish we had a level place large enough to put one up here at our house (kind of).
It looks like you have some fun products to review. I look forward to reading them.
Will you just break where you are in the grammar and math programs and pick them back up this fall? And I assume you'll do Bible studies through the summer instead of breaking?
I'm just curious.
The baby raccoon was really cool. They were around 4 weeks old and need to be cared for until they are about 16 weeks. Then they will be released. We don't have very many completely flat areas in our yard either, but there is a concrete pad by our shop building, so that's where it ended up. It gets so hot here in the summer, so it is great for the children, although of course it's one more thing I have to supervise!
Our regular Math is Math U See and everyone finished their books a few weeks ago. Since we had to review CTC, we will use it over the summer and start back with MUS in the fall. Grammar we will just stop where we are until August and pick it back up again. That was another thing they had finished up a few weeks ago but we went on to the next book for the older boys and started the younger boys for review purposes. We will not use a specific devotional or Bible study during the summer but we do still continue reading the Bible.
