Review: Heartbreak Trail by Susan K Marlow

I have had the pleasure of reviewing and purchasing several books from Susan K. Marlow.  She has 3 different series written that highlight the life of Andi Cartergrowing up on her family's ranch in California in the 1800's: Circle C Beginnings (6 year old Andi), Circle C Adventures (12 year old Andi), and Circle C Milestones (14-18 year old Andi.) She also has a wonderful series called Goldtown Adventures.  We have LOVED every book we have read by Susan K. Marlow, and I was thrilled to have an opportunity to review the newest release in the Circle C Milestones series, Heartbreak Trail.

Heartbreak Trail (168 page paperback) is the second book in the Circle C Milestones series.  In this book, almost 15 year old Andi announces that her quinceanera wish is to go on the upcoming cattle drive.  Her mother reluctantly allows her to and her cousin to go along and assist the cook on the two week drive to Los Angeles.  Andi learns very quickly that a cattle drive is not at all what she thought it would be.  It's dirty, dangerous, and the same food and routine day after day, but she is determined to stick it out and prove she can do it.  When a river crossing goes wrong, Chad gets shot, and Mitch finds himself short handed, Andi and Levi have to step up and and help Mitch get the cattle to market any way they can.

Susan K. Marlow has written another winner.  I loved it!  Heartbreak Trail is full of action, suspense, and adventure.  Not only that, but the books in this series are wholesome books for your children to read.  You do not have to worry about inappropriate content or bad language.  The main characters in these books are characters that children can look up to.  They are not perfect, they make mistakes, but they learn from them and put their faith in God.  I can't wait for the next book in this series, The Last Ride, to come out in February 2016.
