Our new baby chicks arrived this afternoon! The children were so excited to see them and hold them. Last night the boys helped their daddy build a new chicken box so we would have room for all of them. This year we decided to buy 40 at .90 a piece and hopefully keep them all well protected so they will make it to adulthood. The children bought the chickens out of their chicken money and will buy feed and supplies for the new pen. The chicks will stay in their boxes up in the shop under a heat lamp for a couple of months until they grow all of their feathers. Then we will move them to into a movable chicken pen that the boys will help their daddy build. Four children will be showing chickens in the fair this year and they will show 3 a piece. We will definitely have lots of eggs to sell this fall!

So cute! I loved watching our chicks grow that first week. Have fun!
Also, if you didn't get it already, there should be a package in the mail either this weekend or early next week. :-)

That's great! It's so neat how they are buying their own supplies and really learning so much. I'll just keep learning from you and maybe one day we will have chickens...one day...maybe!! Hope all is well, we were thinking about yall last wednesday when all that bad weather came through your way. It's spring break here next week, so we're excited. I hope yall have a good week, and that your little chicks stay safe and sound!
