Homeschool Wrap Up Week 25

This week was not a regular school week for us, but I'm counting it anyway :)

It was spring break for the local public schools which meant that we did not have to babysit this week.  Alex had to work a lot this week with some of his days starting by 1:30 and not getting home until 9:30 at night and we had several little things we had to get done during the days.

The only school that we did every day was math.  We also did a three day artist study on an artist we had never heard of before, Frida Kahlo.  We split it into three days because there was a lot to cover.  Monday we did all of the reading and looked at the slides of her work.  Wednesday we did the worksheets copying the drawings.  Thursday they did their own drawings (except for Emmie who had done such a great job on the separate line drawings but was overwhelmed with the idea of drawing the whole thing together. I allowed her to copy a drawing and work on the colors) and filled them in using oil pastels.

Other things we had going on this week:

Monday morning Alex and I had to get groceries and run some other errands.

Tuesday Christian and Alex were gone all day at a 4 H workshop.  They were preparing for a state wide Cooking Challenge contest that is supposed to take place this summer.  The girls and Anthony were not interested in participating.

Art had taken Wednesday off so we could take the truck for an alignment.  I followed him so we could drop it off and then we had to drive quite aways for goat feed (the local feed stores are still behind on shipments from the snow 6 weeks ago and I had nothing left to feed!)  Then surprisingly his truck was ready when we got back at lunchtime giving him an afternoon free.  Chelsea and the babies stopped by for lunch and then when they left we decided to pack up and go fishing.  The morning had started out cold (39 degrees) but warmed up to almost 80!  It was so nice to get away for a few hours and soak up the sun even though we didn't catch anything.

Thursday morning I headed out to feed and I could hear our other mama goat (not the ginormous one) making sounds that let me know she was in labor.  I texted down to the house to let the boys know and went on feeding.  I had no idea how long she had been in labor or how long it would be until she delivered but less then 10 minutes after I made it to the barn she started to push.  13 minutes later little Strawberry was on the ground.  It was decently warm (50 or so) and she didn't need any help from us.  She is a great and devoted mother and cleaned up her baby and talked to her.  We put a heat lamp on her to help her to dry off and watched for 30 minutes or so to make sure all was well.  I gave the boys a few instructions and the girls and I headed out for church.

Strawberry has a lot of her daddy's color.

We usually do an Easter Egg hunt and a cookout on Palm Sunday at church.  Last year of course we did nothing.  Although our church opened for worship we do not have any in person Sunday School classes or children's activities started up yet.  So this year with the help of a few other ladies I put together Easter Baskets of treats for families to pick up from the church.  We included some crafts and lessons about Holy Week, bubbles, stickers, bracelets, crayons, glue sticks, little toy car, and a dozen candy filled eggs for at home Easter Egg hunts.  Lily and Emmie helped fill the eggs for me.  We packed 48 baskets.  I hope people come out and pick them up!

The girls and I also spent some time visiting their music teacher's cats.  She had surgery this week and had to stay in the hospital a lot longer then planned so we stopped by every few days to pay some extra attention and love on the kitties who are missing their owner! We are praying she is able to come home soon.

We worked on some sewing/embroidery projects.  Lily finished a pocket pillow and Emmie made a butterfly blanket.  I'm working on a Spring Table Runner that I am hoping to finish before Easter.

And the boys started working on the new fence.

Even though the body shop totaled Nick' car the insurance company gave us a buy back option so we are going to take that and find two replacement driver's side doors to fix what was damaged. There was no damage to the frame and the car is driveable.

Next week we will be back to our normal schedule.

I hope you had a great week!

Happy Homeschooling!
