Homeschool Wrap Up Week 11

The changing weather in the fall causes some minor illnesses in our house. Emmie was plagued this week with one of her sore throats.  She has these in the fall and early spring.  No other symptoms but a sore throat but it makes her feel miserable for a few days and gave her a few days off of school.  Lily had a minor cold but it didn't slow her down much.

Bible: We read the first three chapters of the book of John.

History: We read lessons 58, 59 ,and 60 in The Mystery of History Vol 1.

Geography: I went ahead and bought Let's Go Geography Year 2.  We loved this when we reviewed Year 1 a few years ago.  We completed the first lesson, a review of the Continents and Oceans.

Art: We watched a HiGasfy video on Degas and his ballerinas and did the Polar Exploration Drawing from Creating a Masterpiece.  Christian was very proud of his drawing.

Music Appreciation: We finished the Chapter on Schumann in Zeezok Music Appreciation ( I had no idea that he died in an asylum suffering from insanity.)

Poetry: We are reviewing old poems and learning The Spider and the Fly.

Science: We finished Chapter 2 on seeds.  For our seed experiment, our been seed in the dark closet grew better then the one in the window and the one in the fridge didn't grow at all.  We were supposed to take a nature walk to look at flowers but it was pouring down rain and cold.

Emmie did not do a lot of work this week.  But she did 2 math lessons and finished her lesson on La Mariposa in Lightning Lit.  She completed one lesson in AAR Level 3.

Lily completed 4 lessons in math and in her Reading Eggs workbook.  Her next book for Lightning Lit, Morning Girl came a day later then expected so she only had a chance to do the first lesson on that.

Christian and Anthony: are still muddling through the Persuasive Essay in Jump In, but I think they are starting to "get" the general idea.  The completed 4 chapters in Robin Hood.  Christian completed 4 lessons in CTC Math and Anthony did 2 lessons and a quiz in Thinkwell.  They finished the last lesson in AAS Level 6!  On to Level 7 (the last level) next week.

Other Activities this Week

Monday the girls had gymnastics.

Tuesday we were supposed to have a Nature Seekers 4 H Meeting.  I took the time to plan the meeting and went and bought the things we needed and made a fun snack. I posted it on FB and had postcards mailed to people that are signed up in the club.  I had 2 tell me they wouldn't be able to be there.  But, nobody else showed up.  So we waited 30 minutes, cleaned up and went home.  I have been trying to decide if I need to let a few responsibilities in my life go and if so what things need to go.  This may have helped me make that decision but I will think on it for a little while.

When we got back home Christian, Lily, and Emmie carved pumpkins.  Emmie only took a picture of hers and not all of them.

Wednesday we had Kid's Club.

Thursday dance was cancelled because of Trick or Treat.  We went to the park for the Trick or Treat Trail and then to a church for some inside Trick or Treat.  It was COLD!  Well maybe 50 but windy and we dropped down to 28 that night. We were all shivering and my feet were numb by the time we got back to the van (I really am a wimp about cold.)

Friday we had music lessons and grocery shopping.

Saturday was Nick's last regional BEST Robotics competition.  We spent the day in Little Rock watching his team compete from the High School compete.  They did great!  They won 4th for their booth/interview, 3rd for their notebook, 1st in Sportmanship/Spirit, 1st for Robot Performance, and 1st Overall.  They also won a Founder's Award.  The team will go on to compete in Dallas in Dallas.  Being part of this Robotics Team has been a really good experience for him.

It was a long day and we had to run some errands while in the Big City.  We had Ice Cream for supper on the way home :)

I hope you had a great week!

Happy Homeschooling!

Congratulations on the Robotics awards!!!!!

I'm sorry your 4H meeting didn't work out. That's really frustrating, but if you find peace in letting it go, then I'm glad for you!

Sounds like you all are doing so much good work every day! I'm glad the colds weren't bad. Our colds have been dreadful!
