Week 22 in our Homeschool
P.E.: We did 3 days of Family Time Fitness.
Bible: In Windows on the World we read about the Kurds. The memory verse this week was the first part of The Lord's Prayer. We already have that memorized. The Bible reading was from Matthew 17:14-18:14.
Read Aloud: For our morning read aloud we read 5 chapters of Amy Carmichael. We finished reading the Green Ember for our evening read aloud. The boys really liked it and want to read the next one in the series. In the meantime, we have been reading The Terrestria Chronicles Book One: The Sword, The Ring, and The Parchment. in the afternoon and evening.
Poetry: We continued memorizing Psalm 8 and went over all of the poems we have learned so far.
E.C.C: In Exploring Countries and Cultures the children completed a sheet on the flag of Saudi Arabia. They also read about Israel. We reviewed the location of all of the countries we have learned this year. In the science portion we read about pollution, acid rain, and global warming.
History: We completed 2 stops in Passport Ancient Greece.
Art: Our main art project this week was The Cardinal from Creating a Masterpiece.. But the girls and I also did The Candle and The Italian Window.
Language Arts: Lily completed 4 lessons in Eclectic Foundations Level B. Christian and Anthony wrote a short composition about a Robin who returned home after flying south for the Winter. They also completed Lesson 13 in Fix It! Grammar Level 2. I started Alex on something new this week. I bought the Editor in Chief Software from Critical Thinking Company for grades 6-8. He finished 2 articles this week.
Spelling/Reading: In All About Spelling Level 3 the boys completed Step 23. In AAR Levl 4 they completed lessons 56 and 57. In AAR Level 3 Lily completed lesson 18.
Math: Nick completed lesson 21 in MUS Geometry. Alex completed 4 lessons in Teaching Textbooks 7 and Christian, Lily, and Anthony completed 4 lessons in Math Lessons for a Living Education. The boys did one lesson in Times Alive.
MFW Creation from A to Z: This week Emmie did the unit on "e" for elephant. "E" is one of her favorite letters. She did her picture card page, cut and paste page, math page, handwriting page, sound discrimination page, blend ladder page, and made her elephant badge. This week they also start having simple books to go with each unit. Emmie read her very first book called The Sled.
Nature Study: We did not finish our nature study this week. We started talking about it, but the day we were going to do a nature walk and draw in the journals it was raining and I never got back to it. We will have to work on it next week.
All American History and God's Design in Nature: In AAH Nick completed through lesson 16. In God's Design he completed the last of the worksheets for the first book Discovery of Design. Next week he starts reading Made in Heaven.
Other Activities this Week:
Monday I had to take Chelsea to the doctor. It's one of those things that makes living in a small town inconvenient when you have to drive over an hour to go to a doctor appointment, so half of your day is gone by the time you get home. We spent the afternoon finishing up entries for the 4 h cookie and bread contest, had a quick supper and headed off to enter their goodies. We killed time at Walmart and then went back for the awards. By the time we got home it was time to get ready for bed.
Tuesday the girls had gymnastics. We did not get to go to the park because it was pouring down rain! I dropped Nick off with Art and took the others home. Art dropped Nick off at church and picked him up.
Wednesday we stayed home. There was no Kid's Club because the local public schools were on Mid-Winter Break.
Friday was Frontier Days for Homeschoolers at Historic Washington State Park. They do this activity twice a year, although I have to say that it is not just homeschoolers that attend now, there were public school buses as well. We went to the Frontier Days last February and in October and toured the park in June with 4 H but I wanted to take the children again before my pass expired. We did not have anything to pack for lunch and I did not want to spend the money to buy lunch there so I told the children we were only staying a couple of hours then going back to town to grocery shop and would use our Book It Coupons to get some pizzas. We chose to do some of our favorite activities at Historic Washington like making candles and riding the surrey, and had an opportunity to do a new activity, digging for artifacts. I was surprised at how many things they found in only 15 minutes. They found several nails and pieces of pottery and glass.
