P.E.: We only did 2 days of Family Time Fitness this week.
Bible: We read about Spain in Windows on the World. In Hero Tales we read about Martin Luther, and our Bible reading was Matthew 12: 1-45. The memory verse this week is Matthew 11:29-30.
Read Aloud: For our morning read aloud we read 3 chapters of William Booth. In the afternoon we read the introduction to 21 Balloons, but then I forgot to read it the rest of the week! Not sure how that happened. In the evening we are reading The Ruby Moon by Jerry Jenkins and Trisha White Priebe. It is the second book to The Glass Castle that we reviewed last fall.
Poetry: We are memorizing the poem Who Has Seen the Wind by Christina Rossetti.
E.C.C: We started learning about Germany this week. We read some facts about Germany and two pages in Children's Atlas in God's World. They also did the German flag and wrote a few facts on that. I added in a small map pf Germany that we put in the capital and 4 main rivers. We reviewed the locations of all of the countries in Europe. For the science portion we read about Lakes and Ponds, Freshwater Plants and Animals, and Getting Oxygen Underwater. We did a worksheet on lakes and ponds. We also did an experiment on sound vibration.
Art: For art this week we did squirrel drawings.
Apologia Astronomy: In Exploring Creation with Astronomy we completed the chapter on Jupiter.
Language Arts: In Language Lessons for Today I read The Tortoise and the Hare and the boys narrated it back to me. We did a picture study on the painting Soap Bubbles and wrote a short paragraph about that painting. They made a chart contrasting the differences between butterflies and moths. We also went over the usage of the words go, went, and gone. In Fix It! Grammar we completed lesson 11. Lily's language arts lesson was on verbs.
Spelling: 17,9,43 In AAS Level 3 the boys finished Step 17. In AAR Level 4 they completed lessons 40,41,42, and 43. In AAR Level 3 Lily finished lessons 7,8, and 9.
Math: Alex completed 4 lessons in Teaching Textbooks 7. Nick completed lesson 15 in MUS Geometry. Lily Christian, and Anthony completed 4 lessons in Math Lessons for a Living Education. Lily's favorite activity this week was Making Wildlife Energy Muffins, an assignment in her math book. The birds seem to be enjoying them too!
MFW Creation from A to Z: Emmie started the lesson on "g" for "goat." She did her picture card page, sound discrimination page, cut and paste page, math page, handwriting page, and sound discrimination page. She also made animal puppets and did a page matching mama and baby animals.
Nature Study: This week we did a nature study activity on the winter sky.
All American History and God's Design in Nature: AAH is still on hold until the end of January. Nick is currently reading a biography on George Washington to fill in the gap. In God's Design in Nature he has completed through Chapter 6 worksheet 10.
Other Activities this Week:
Public schools in this area were still on vacation this week which meant that our outside activities were still on vacation. This was nice especially since we were getting over being sick.
We did have a Snow Day on Friday which the children loved!!
