Homeschool Wrap Up Week 28

Having my husband working from home the last two weeks has caused a few changes in our homeschool.  Our internet is not great and he has to be able to access it to complete his work which meant that we did not have an opportunity to complete a few of our usual assignments this week like a drawing lesson or Art history video but we will get back to those things hopefully next week.  We also took a day off this week for Christian's birthday.

Week 28 in our Homeschool

Bible: We read 4 chapters in the book of Romans.

Read Aloud: We are still reading The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien and started Thick as Thieves by Susan K. Marlow.

Geography: Our country of study this week was Argentina.

Music Appreciation: We started the very last book in the series on Edward MacDowell.

We have finished our history curriculum for the year and will be starting back on Botany next week.

Emmie completed Vol 1 in Level 3 of All About Reading.  Her story in Lightning Lit this week was The Enormous Crocodile by Road Dahl.  In math she is working on multiplication.

Lily is still working through her Reading Eggs workbook.  Her story in Lightning Lit is Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.  In math she is working on perimeter.

Christian and Anthony are reading Adam of the Road in Memoria Press Literature.  In Jump In. their writing curriculum, they are working on writing a How To paper.  In AAS Levl 7 we completed Step 11, and each of them completed their math assignments for this week.

I have not started thinking about curriculum for next year.  I will need to do that soon!  This is the first time in 11 years I have not done regular curriculum reviews and have not been able to see all the new things as they are coming out.  At the same time, it is the first time in 11 years that I have not had to change up what we have been working on every 6 weeks and haven't had to spend weeks working on things that were not a good fit for us.

Other Happenings in our Week

My girls do a pretty good job staying busy.  They will occasionally complain about being bored but for the most part keep busy during their spare time and I do not have to find things for them to do  One day this week they had a tea party, another day they made cookies and had a birthday party for one of their dolls.  One rainy day they really wanted some fresh air so they drug their craft supplies and a blanket to the front porch to work on their crafts.  They did some paintings and Emmie worked on a cute embroidery project.  Trampoline bouncing, bike riding, plenty of fresh air and exercise.  I will say that staying busy while being at home has been harder on my teenage boys.  They do have some work projects outside (still working on that livestock barn and everyday animal chores), but they do not keep as busy as the girls.

Christian had a birthday this week.  It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine.  And even though his lunch plans didn't work out and his present didn't arrive in time due to a shipping delay, he had a great attitude and it was a great day.

Thursday we left the house for a bit and did some fishing.  We only caught a few little ones but it was nice just to get away for a bit.

Our baby goats are doing great.  One is two weeks old today and the other is 13 days old.  They are very playful and curious.  They are trying to be like their mamas and nibbling at hay and goat feed.  They love jumping and climbing and running.  We are hoping the walls to the barn come in one day this week.

Art's company has decided to get their plant back up and running a week earlier then they had planned so he is back to work at work (instead of home) tomorrow.  The seniors at the schools in Arkansas have been told that as long as they were in good standing at the beginning of the 3rd nine weeks they have met the graduation requirements and do not need to continue with any AMI work unless it is for a college course.  That means that Nick is finished with the exception of his AP American History.  I expect that the Governor will announce soon that the schools will not go back at all this year (but I could be wrong about that.)  I am still not completely sure what to think about all that is going on, but I do know it is not going to be a magical all is well everything can go back to normal.  I do think the decisions that are being made believe that they are being made for "the greater good" but I'm not so sure.  So many decisions based on fear, so many people out of work, so many things unsettled and will be for a long time.  But, rather then dwell on all of that, I leave you with cute baby goats being more then a little spoiled:)

I hope you had a great week!

Happy Homeschooling!

So much goodness--especially for your little girls! It's the same here for us; the littler ones know better how to handle the days at home than the older ones do. :)

And oh! Those baby goats and grandbabies!!! What joy!
