TOS Review: Scruble Cube

Photobucket

Like to play Scrabble?  Do you enjoy playing with a Rubix Cube?  Well, if you combine those two games you  get a Scuble Cube, a 3 D word game and puzzle on steroids.  If you can spell "cat" you've got the tools you need to start playing.  Scruble Cube is for ages 8 and up and can be used with 1-4 players.  Players form words on the cube using letter pegs of different values.  Words can begin and end anywhere on the cube and are formed in a single line.  Players do not have to build off of the first word  they can form a brand new word of their own.  The game ends when one player exceeds a target number of points or a predetermined number of rounds have been played.  With over 7,401 septillion possible combinations no two games will be alike!

My children love to play games but can't always find someone to play with them.  That's why I was so excited to review Scruble Cube because you can play alone or with others.  Since it is a cube, it also is very portable and I thought it would be great to use in the van.  I thought  Nick (9), Alex (almost 8), and Chelsea (14) would love this. The children were very excited the day Scruble Cube arrived.  Three hours after we got it when Nick was sitting on the couch playing with it, it fell apart and looked like this.

Nick (9) was very upset thinking he had done something to break it when he was playing it the right way.  I contacted customer service that night and by the next morning I received an email apologizing and a tracking number for my new Scruble Cube that was already on its way.  Then I received a phone call from the president of RSV Productions and since I was not at home to take the call, he sent me a follow up email.  In the email he explained that these cubes came from their first production run and is a complex build with over 200 working parts.  Since the first production they have improved their mechanics so failures are less likely.  We received our new Sruble Cube within a couple of days.  I was very impressed with their Customer Service.

I think the Scruble Cube is a wonderful concept.  It is fun to play, allows for lots of creativity, and is educational too.  The free downloadable lesson plans on the site are an added bonus for educators.

Our second Scruble Cube has fared much better than the first one.  I have only allowed my 9 year old, 14 year old, and my husband and I to use it.  My almost 8 year old is way too hard on his toys and I didn't trust him with it  When playing it you do have to be very careful about how you turn it because at times it seems to stick.  According to the instructions these sticking points typically disappear with use.

To see what other crew mates had to say click here.

I received a complimentary Sruble Cube for the purpose of writing a fair and honest review.  I received no other compensation.

Ooops.... that cube looks awful, but I'm glad they replaced right away and you didn't have the problem again!! We enjoyed this product, too!

Yikes!!! I'm glad to hear your new one is holding up better. I try to be so careful with ours because it scares me.

This looks like such fun! My boys love scrabble, but $25 seems like a lot. Customer Service was awesome for you and so that is always a bonus!
