But first, our homeschool week....
Homeschool Wrap Up Week 8
Bible: We read 4 chapters in the book of Luke.
History: We completed lessons 49, 50, and 51 in The Mystery of History Vol 1.
Art: We watched an art history video on Degas. I planned on the children completing a colored pencil drawing but never got to it.
Music Appreciation: We read chapter 2 in Robert Schumann.
Science: The project for the first chapter of Botany was to build a light hut to grow plants in. We got it made and the seeds planted when we realized the lightbulb included in the kit was not the correct bulb. We tried to switch it with one from the house but the wattage was too high so this project was a bit of a bust. They also completed the notebooking activities in the journal.
Emmie: Completed one day of CTC Math and 3 of Elephant Learning. The review for Elephant Learning is due soon so we will be able to stop using that. She completed lesson 8 in Classical Spelling (this has been pretty easy for her so far.) We finished Insect Detective in Lightning Lit and started The Three Questions.
Lily : Worked the whole week on the same lesson in CTC Math. She is having trouble adding several large numbers together. Slowing down and staying focused on what she is doing will help but she is making little addition mistakes. We are taking a break from it next week and moving on to something else for a little while. She also worked on her Reading Eggs workbook and The Earth Dragon Awakes in Lightning Lit.
Christian and Anthony: Finished the 150 word opinion paper for Jump In. Some children think writing is torture and Anthony is one of those children. Even after going through a process of how to brainstorm to come up with ideas and plan the paragraph he could not write the paper until I told him what topic he was going to write about. I'm hoping this gets better with time. They completed Step 28 in AAS Level 6 and did 4 days of Math. They read 4 chapters of Robin Hood and answered the comprehension questions from Memoria Press Literature. They are enjoying the book so far.
Other Activities this Week:
Monday the girls had gymnastics.
Tuesday we had the babies. We were trying to get Willow to smile on camera, but she thought we were crazy.
We had a STEM 4 H Meeting.
Then Alex had his last day of the 6 week trap shoot he has been participating in. It ended up being a great night for him. He shot a perfect round of 25/25 for the first time ever! He was so excited!!!
And....
Nick received his acceptance to Southern Arkansas University. He will receive a scholarship based on his ACT score. He is taking the test again at the end of the month to see if he can raise it just a little more to get the next higher scholarship.
Wednesday we had Kid's Club and Children's Choir and youth.
Thursday we babysat again. And Emmie had dance.
Uncle Nick watched Mickey with Liam before he had to leave for school while we were waiting for the others to get up.
Friday we had music lessons and had to pack and load what we could to leave for State Fair the next morning.
Saturday the alarm rang at 4:00 a.m. After getting everything unloaded and checked in we had a little time. We started with chicken judging so we hung out in the poultry barn for awhile. It is the first time we have taken chickens. You have to win Grand or Reserve Champion at your County Fair to be eligible to take your poultry chain chickens to state. Lily's birds won 4th place, which is really good.

Then we had to go to the goat barn for Showmanship. That took a few hours to complete.
We had time for a late lunch and to look around a bit before the Arkansas Bred Wether Show that night. We have never participated in that show because we have always shown does not wethers. Christian was 8th in his class (out of 9) and Alex was 7th in his (out of 7.)
Up early the next morning for the Market Goat Show. Neither of the boys placed. The price the meat truck was offering was good (nowhere near what we paid for show animals of course but good) so we sold them before we left. That leaves us with 6 goats at the house.

I've had a lot of why do we do this moments this weekend. Do the life lessons and experiences make the bad attitudes, stress, money , and amount of work we put in worth it? Most of the time I think it is, others I'm not so sure. I'm going to have to think on it when I'm not so tired.
We go back on Wednesday and Thursday with the pig.

My heart goes out to Anthony as he struggles with writing torture. I've got kids that get stuck, too, so you both have my sympathy.
I love how deliciously fat your sweet Willow is. My babies were round like that, and she touches my heart with her kissable cheeks.
And to you, dear tired mama, I wish a good rest and renewed perspective. I honestly can't say I know if what you're doing is right or wrong; only you and your husband can figure that out. From the outside I see incredible opportunities and growth for your kids that I envy from afar. I totally get how hard it is to do all of this--we have breakdowns just trying to get out the door to the library or the park! You're all accomplishing so much! I wish you well in your decision-making.
