Schoolhouse Crew Review: Kinder Cottage Publishing

Kinder Cottage Review
Kinder Cottage Publishing creates and offers products that help parents educate young children.  They started Kinder Cottage in 2012 publishing a Peter Rabbit and Wizard of Oz series.  They then moved on publishing two books written by Howard's mom is the 1960's and in 2013 partnered with Jerry Wescott to create a series for primary and elementary aged children on 10 of the most influential people in England. They have future plans to develop a picture book biography series on America's founding fathers.  We recently had an opportunity to read and review two books from Kinder Cottage: The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Peter Rabbit at the Farm.

There are several books in the Peter Rabbit series including: The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Peter Rabbit at the Farm, Peter Rabbit's Christmas, How Peter Rabbit Went to Sea, Peter Rabbit Goes A-Visiting, Peter Rabbit's Birthday, Peter Rabbit's Easter, Peter Rabbit's Birthday, When Peter Rabbit Went to School, Peter Rabbit and the Little Boy,  and Peter Rabbit and Jack the Jumper. These books were written by Duff Graham for the Henry Altemus Company in 1917.  They are beautifully illustrated with the original illustrations and the only modifications to the stories was a change in some of the language to make it more modern, such as the word velocipede in the original texts being changed to bicycle.  These stories are great for children ages 3-9, and even children a little younger or older can still enjoy and appreciate them.  You can purchase each one of the hardcover books for  $4.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit is a 64 page hardcover book.  In this adventure, we read about Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter Rabbit.  The first 3 rabbits went to gather blackberries when their mother was out for the day, but Peter got himself into a bit of trouble going to Mr. McGregor's garden even after he was told not to go there.  The story is about what happened to Peter while he was in Mr. McGregor's garden.

Peter Rabbit at the Farm is also a 64 page hardcover book.  In this story, when Peter is looking for mischief we read about how he ran into Pollie Possum, and how he helped out Little Goosie Poosie.  He also makes friends with Old Growler, and Silver Tail, and Thomas, and takes a ride on Old Jim Crow.

I chose these two books as I knew that my 3 and 5 year old girls would love for me to read them aloud to them. Although, as I read them aloud, my 7 and 8 year olds hung around to listen as well.  The girls "read" the books to themselves as well.  I was very impressed with the quality of these books when they arrived in the mail, especially when I looked at the price and realized they were selling them for only $4!  These are adorable hard cover books that are the perfect size for little hands to tote around and carry.  Because they are hardcover they are sturdy enough for little ones to carry around easily.  The illustrations are adorable!  We enjoyed reading the familiar Peter Rabbit stories and have read them again and again since they arrived.
I look forward to seeing the other books that Kinder Cottage Publishing has to offer and adding more of them to our collection.
