Homeschool Wrap Up Week 24

This week I received two phone calls from my children that are calls that mamas do not want to receive!  But thankfully in both cases everyone was ok!

Alex called me Tuesday evening when I was on my way to pick up the girls from dance to tell me that he was in his bosses truck and on his way to the emergency room because he cut his arm and needed stitches.  I pulled over and waited for his boss to drop him off to me.  I wanted to look at the wound and Alex is only 17 and can't get treatment without a parent.  I was picturing in my mind this horrible wound with blood pouring out.  So thankful it wasn't!! It was long and wide but not very deep.  So long story short he didn't go to the ER we got him cleaned up and bandaged back at home and then he wanted to go back to work.  A week later it is healing very nicely.

Sunday evening 45 minutes after he left to head back to school, Nicholas called me to tell me he had just been in an accident.  Thankfully nobody was injured!! A car pulled out of a gas station and drove right into the side of him.  I had him call the police , take photos of the damage, and get insurance information from the couple.  I asked if he needed us to go down there but he said he was fine and the car was driveable.  The other insurance company has already admitted liability. He took it to a body shop yesterday to get an estimate and there is more damage then the car is worth and they recommended it to be totaled. so we will see what happens from here.

We had some really beautiful weather this week and then some storms that blew in some really cold and windy and yucky weather.  But we are enjoying spring as much as possible!

Liam was super excited to see on Monday that the seeds that we planted had grown!

Our sweet Lily had her birthday on Monday.  These children are growing up way to fast!

Tuesday we planted some strawberries.  We have never tried to grow them before so we will see what happens!

We also participated in the 4 H Healthy Habits Cooking Experience.  They made up kits with everything we needed for the kids to prepare Stuffed Shells at home.  They were stuffed with spinach, cottage cheese, and mozzarella cheese.  We were not big fans of the spinach but very much enjoyed the experience of preparing the recipe and eating it for supper!

Alex had another Trap Shoot this weekend.  It was very cold out there!!

Other pictures of our week (mostly babies because they like it when I take their pictures!  The bigger kids not so much anymore.)

Week 24 in our Homeschool

Bible: We are continuing to read through the Psalms.  Not exactly Bible study but on a recommendation from a friend I purchased the Chosen DVDs Season 1 about the life of Jesus and we will begin watching those next week.

History: We completed lessons on Frederick II, St Thomas Aquinas, and Roger Bacon in MOH Vol II.

Geography: We covered North and South Dakota this week.

Latin: We completed the translation for Lesson 15 in Visual Latin.

Language Arts: The boys are still working on their research papers.  We finished Tom Sawyer and started As You Like It.  I am reading it aloud to them and we are answering the questions together.  So far we have completed Act I and they are not quite sure what to think about it.  Emmie is working through Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Lily completed Heidi and Lassie Comes Home just arrived for her to get started on next.

Math: Independent work.

Science: Independent work.

We started These Happy Golden Years (my favorite Little House book!) and The Secret Warning Hardy Boys mystery.

Our baby goats that we thought we supposed to be born this week were not! So we are still waiting.  The mama is huge and very uncomfortable and now we have no idea when to expect them so we watch and wait.

I am still working a little bit at a time on cleaning/organizing the downstairs.  I really like the new arrangement of the family room and Anthony put together my new sewing table which gives us a spot to put the second embroidery machine and  store Lily's machine.  I need some storage shelves in there still.  And I'm trying to get the school shelves cleaned off in the playroom.  I emptied two shelves so far and need to go through my school books so I can maybe sell/give some and get them out of here. I have started planning and shopping for next year which is one of my favorite things!

I found this picture of the girls when I was cleaning off the shelves.  They were making snacks each week that started with different letter of the alphabet.

I hope you had a great week!

Happy Homeschooling!

  1. Oh my goodness! Look at your darling baby girls!! Growing up is so bittersweet!! I'm glad your boys are all right, and I'm sorry about the totaled car. It seems that all of the cars are being declared totaled. I wish they would fix the old ones. I miss our last van. It was the best van ever! I hope your baby goats are born happy and healthy and that the mama takes good care of them. I keep trying to think of next year's curriculum, but I can't. We're still deep in this year's, so I'm putting it off.

    I'll probably regret that!!! :)
