This week was our District Fair Livestock shows. Usually we go down on Wednesday and camp out on the fair grounds until Sunday, but this year due to Covid everything was different. There was no actual fair or rodeo, and no household entries. Livestock shows only. We had to take pigs down on Tuesday night, they spent the night and showed on Wednesday and went home. Then we returned on Friday to show goats who were released after the show. There was no rabbit show because of a contagious disease that is killing rabbits (Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease.)
We did get some school done in between show days.
Week 5 in our Homeschool
Bible: We finished reading 2nd Corinthians.
Read Aloud: We read three chapters of our YWAM biography on John Adams.
History: We completed Week 5 in The MOH on Diocletian, Constantine I, and The Golden Age of India.
Geography: The girls completed lesson 4 in Our 50 States and we read chapter 4 in Rabbit Hill.
Language Arts: Christian and Anthony finished The Wind in the Willows and completed lessons on prepositional phrases in Essentials in Writing. Emmie completed 4 chapters in The Boxcar Children and continued learning about contractions. Lily read 3 chapters in Dreamer.
Math: Each of the children completed 3 lessons in their math.
Reading/Spelling: Spelling will start next week. Emmie completed 2 lessons in AAR Level 4. She read the story The Makeover.
Other Activities this Week
Monday the girls had gymnastics.
Tuesday we had the babies.
And then took the pigs to the fair.
Wednesday we were up very early to travel down to the pig show. Nick, Emmie, and I were the only ones who went. There were a LOT of pigs! There always is! The place the top 10 and pen the top 7. I am very proud of Nick and Emmie's hard work with their pigs! They have really come a long way! Nick placed 10th in his class and Emmie was penned and then placed 6th in hers! It was a long day. I walked over 5 miles.
Thursday we had to get the trailer cleaned and the goats ready. Lily and Christian were washing goats. I was cleaning and loading the trailer. I told them to make sure the goats were good and dry before they put their coats on them. Next thing I knew every clean towel in the house had been used to dry goats! At least they were good and dry.....
Friday early morning we headed down to the goat show. It was 49 degrees when we were loading goats! The sun was out and it did warm up in the afternoon. Alex placed 4th and 5th with his, Christian placed 7th, and Lily placed 4th with hers. I was very proud of all the children. It was another long day. I walked 6 miles (according to my phone.) Part of that was dragging some very unwilling goats to the colliseum. One actually laid straight down in the grass and rolled because he didn't want to be on the harness. I ordered pizzas for supper that night.
That is a wrap for our show season! We are very thankful to all of the people that made these livestock shows possible this year! Hamlet (the pig) leaves this week. We are hoping to sell the two goats and the other pig quickly.
