Homeschool Review Crew: Brain Blox Wooden Building Planks

My children love building things.  When we go to the Children's Museum that is what they spend most of their time doing, building large structures with the different supplies provided there.  I was so excited to see Brain Blox Wooden Building Planks from Brain Blox  because I knew how much they would love them, and I was right!

Brain Blox Wooden Building Planks are made from New Zealand pine.  They have no stains, paints, or dyes, and are all natural and non toxic.  All ages of children and adults can use these building planks (the box says ages 4 to 104.)  No connectors are needed to build structures, They can be used for any kind of imaginative play, educational learning (building numbers, letters, structures you are studying etc...), STEM projects and more.  All of the planks in the box are the exact same weight and size.

Our set came with:

200 planks
Drawstring bag for storage
Design Ideas Booklet

100 plank and 300 plank sets are also available.

The Brain Blox website has a ton of resources for build ideas.  They have free downloadable Let's Build Idea Cards and Brain Blox World Book,  links to videos on their Youtube channel, and even ideas for turning planks into super heroes.  So many great resources!

When our box arrived, I let the children open it right away even though we were right in the middle of our school day.  As you can imagine the rest of that day was used to build structures out of planks!  My 8, 10, and 12 year olds love, love, love this set.  And 200 planks for $44.95 is very reasonably priced.  I am planning on adding another set to our household soon just because with 3 of them using them they could use more.

Here are a few of their designs.

Emmie (age 8) says her favorite thing to build with the planks are houses.  And that she loves them because they are fun.  Lily (age 10) loved building different types of towers and then photographing what she made.  Christian (age 12) loved building the house and the ship.

I love that the set came with a drawstring bag for easy clean up.  And all of the blocks fit inside of it! This is a huge bonus for me.  Easy clean up makes it a lot more fun for all of us!

If you have never used these types of planks before, you may be surprised at how smooth and sturdy they are and wonder if they are hard to build with especially since the entire set is the same size.  They are not at all hard to build with . My 2 year old grandson came to the house and could build a tower all by himself and build other structures with some help from his aunts and uncles.

There really is no limit to what you can build.  If you can imagine it, you can build it.  These planks are a great educational toy for your children and grandchildren.  Adults will have fun building with them too.
