Our Week in Review (June 24-30th)

Right now I am sitting by the lake watching Lily and Emmie swim and Christian fish.  We have been here since Friday and are going home tomorrow.  Camping is so much work, and sometimes a lot of stress but I do enjoy quiet peaceful moments like this while they last.  The weather has been beautiful (upper 80's and some clouds) so we have been able to really enjoy it without getting too hot.

It has been a busy week!

Monday morning I took Christian and two goats to a three day show camp.  The camp was about an hour away and our ag agent was driving back and forth each day so he was able to ride home with her and she took him Tuesday and Wednesday and brought him home Monday and Tuesday. They had to be there by 7:30 am and stayed until 7:30 pm except on Wednesday they released at 12.  There were only 3 children with goats so he had a lot of one on one attention and learned a lot about nutrition, grooming, general health and goat information, and showmanship.

Tuesday morning the girls had a painting class.

Then when we got home we had Liam for a few hours.  And Nick and Alex left for a 5 day overnight church camp.

Wednesday I dropped Christian off with Samantha so she could take him on to camp and then went home to feed and water all of the animals.  Next we got the girls ready to go and headed on our way.  I dropped them off at Grandview for a Wild Wednesday Day Camp where they got to canoe most of the day.  It was their first time to attend a day camp and they had a great time!

Anthony and I headed on to Hope to watch the Showmanship competition at Show Camp for each of the species.  They also gave out awards to the campers.  Each camper received a $40 gift certificate to use at the show trailer that was set up out there and some of the campers that won awards got more money to use at the trailer.  Christian won Most Improved Showman and Reserve Champion for Showmanship which gave him $95 to spend!  He was so excited.  He bought some supplies for the goats that he has wanted for awhile and some that were recommended to him.  We had a quick lunch, loaded all of his stuff and headed back to pick up the girls.

That night we pulled DNA on this year's show animals and then Christian and Anthony went to youth.

Thursday we had a Nature Seekers 4 H meeting.  We made an ecosystem in a bottle.

Then the girls had music lessons.

Friday morning we went grocery shopping and loaded up the camper to head out to the lake!

The water was up a bit high.....That's our water spicket when we got here.  One entire loop of campsites is closed and they had to move us down because the site we reserved electric box was in the water

The boys used their skills at Dutch Oven cooking to make some pizza

While taking care of Nick's pig this week I discovered why she keeps running out of water so fast.  She flips her trough up to make mud and then sleeps under it.

So I gave her a pool to cool off in.  But she just dumps it out.

I dont love taking care of the pig.  Nick is gone most of July so I will have to then, but when he is home this animal is all his!!

We worked on some Apologia General Science this week (upcoming review) and some reading and a little bit of math.

I hope you had a great week!

Happy Homeschooling!

  1. Such wonderful activities for everyone! The pizza looks good. Congrats on the 4-H goat wins! The boat in the water with trees behind them is too crazy; we've got unusually high water this year, too--but I'm trying to remember that's better than too low. And I hope the pig doesn't trouble you too much while your boy is away!! :)
