Our Week in Review (July 8th-14th)

Our internet went out Friday evening.  One minute it was working the next it wasn't.  The modem lights all completely off.  I was going to call this morning and get it replaced but when I went to double check everything to make sure the cord wasn't loose or something wasn't going on with the power strip, I discovered the power cord chewed in half.  The cat apparently chewed through it/  Not having internet is a mild inconvenience but it does make some things difficult.  We have several smart phones with data plans but our phones only work sporadically in the house.  One minute 3G works and the next no signal in the same spot.  Right now my hot spot is working to run my laptop but it goes out every 5 minutes or so.  I cannot get all of the photos to upload. I had to sit outside yesterday to be able to pay bills. Hopefully we will be able to get a new cord and keep the cat away from it.  Last time the internet was out here it was bats that chewed wires in the junction box down the road.....

Anyway......

Monday the girls went to another Playful Painting class.  This week's theme was Thanksgiving.  Their Turkey paintings turned out super cute!

Tuesday we did not leave the house at all, but did have Liam to babysit.

Wednesday the girls went to Wild Wednesday Day Camp at Grandview.  They were supposed to be doing a Wagon Tour of the entire conservation area out there but the temps with the heat index were over 105 so they did some indoor activities most of the time.  They picked some flowers and made a one folder lapbook, painted wooden snakes and a fishing lure and played some games like a bean bag toss and an antler toss.  They had a great time ( no pics since I wasn't there and Grandview didn't post any)

Thursday the girls had music class.

Friday was another day we did not have to leave the house at all.  We worked on finishing up some gifts for Chelsea for the baby shower.  Emmie made the butterfly burp cloth and Lily made the dog and helped me with some of the other items.  I also made two blankets with her name on them and a flannel blanket with a panda embroidered on it.

Saturday was Chelsea's baby shower.  Willow will be arriving in a few weeks.

And my boys came home!  I think Alex got taller while he was gone.  They had a great trip.  Some of the things they do on this trip are: several different workshops relating to government and leadership, tours of Mount Vernon, Iwo Jima Memorial, Night View of D.C., Arlington National Cemetery, Capital Hill, Air Force Memorial and Pentagon Memorial, National Cathedral, National Mall (they toured several museums) , Congressional Session, and met with several government representatives.  They also went to Toby's Dinner Theater to see Grease.  They rode the Metro (Alex was NOT impressed.) They had a wonderful, memorable experience and I'm so glad they were able to go.  They are home for two days until they leave again.

While they were gone we took care of all the animals.  The girls did chickens and rabbits.  Christian and I did goats and pig and Anthony helped with water buckets.  With the weather being so hot we had to fill buckets a few times a day and take frozen water bottles to the rabbits.  Anthony has had some weird allergy things going on this week though one day his eye swelled almost shut and another day he walked out to the camper to get something and came back and his bottom lip had swelled up.  He has had lots of benadryl.

Since it was so hot we stayed inside in the afternoons and got a bit of school work done.  Anthony is working on Apologia General Science every day.  Christian started using CTC Math.  We did two days of Home School in the Woods Ancient Rome.  We started listening to the audiobook The Misadventures of Tom Sawyer and started reading Who Was Mark Twain?  In the evenings we are still reading The Door in the Wall and Tunnel of Gold.

I hope you had a great week!

Happy Homeschooling!

  1. Hooray for a baby girl!!!!! How exciting!!! The embroidered baby items are so, so cute! Glad your boys has a good time on their trip, and I hope the next one is good, too. Those high temps and heat indices are headed our way this week. We're going to be sitting in the 100s consistently for a week--according to the forecast. :(

    Hope the allergies clear up!!

And that you can replace/fix your internet troubles, too.
