Homeschool Wrap Up Week 6

Week 6 in our Homeschool

P.E.: We only managed to get one day of Family Time Fitness done this week.

Bible: Our memory verse was Matthew 4:19.  We read about Haiti in Windows on the World and read from Matthew 4:12-Matthew 5:10.

Read Aloud: We read 6 chapters in Cameron Townsend for our morning read aloud.  We started reading The Incredible Journey for our afternoon read aloud.

Poetry: We continued working on memorizing Jonathan Bing.

E.C.C: I did end up doubling up and skipping a few things so we could finish up Mexico this week.  I had wanted to find a kid friendly documentary that would show the children what life was like for an average person living in Mexico but was unsuccessful.  We did watch some short clips of some of the scenery and a clip about pottery.  We read about some facts and features about Mexico and colored the Mexican flag.  In science we read about oases, coping with dryness, and rain in the desert. Our vocab words were canyon and gulch.  Our art project was to make a clay sun.  We have not had a chance to paint these yet.

When you finish eat country they recommend cooking foods native to that country,  So on Saturday I made chicken enchiladas, rice, and beans, and Lily and I made a Tres Leches Cake.

Science: We did not do any of our Astronomy text this week.

Art: We made the earth using our Chalk Pastels book.

Language Arts: I decided not to continue with Fix It! 3 for Nick.  He got a break this week.  I am expecting a review from the Critical Thinking Company this week for him and we will be using that instead.  Anthony, Christian, and I completed lesson 4 in Fix it! Book 2.  Alex continues to work on punctuation in All in One English.  Anthony and Christian did a picture study and learned about prepositions in Language Lessons for Today.  Lillian learned about common nouns in Jolly Grammar.

Spelling/Reading:  The boys completed step 7 in AAS Level 3 and lessons 14,15,16, and 17 in AAR Level 4.  Lily completed lessons 38 and 39 in AAR Level 2.

Math:  Alex completed 3 lessons and a quiz in Teaching Textbooks 7.  Nick completed Lesson 5 in MUS Geometry.  Christian, Anthony, and Lily completed 4 lessons in Math Lessons for a Living Education.

MFW Creation from A to Z: Emmie started "T" for turtle.  She did the picture card page, handwriting page, sound discrimination page, and cut and paste page.  She also started blending sounds on the blend ladder.  She sounded out and wrote her first word "sat."  She was quite proud and can't wait to be able to read like her big sister.

All American History:  Nick completed lessons 19-22.

Discovering God's Design in Nature:  He completed his lessons for days 23-26.

Other Activities this Week:

Both Christian and Alex had their first soccer games Monday night at 7.  We sat between the fields and watched both games at the same time.

Tuesday the girls had their first gymnastics class for this year.

Then we ate pizza at the park.  Christian had a game at 6 and Alex had a game at 7.

Wednesday we had Kid's Club.

Thursday Christian had a soccer practice.  I took the others and went grocery shopping.

Friday we went to Frontier Days for Homeschoolers at Historic Washington State Park.  I have to confess I started out having a bad attitude when we first got there.  I usually avoid Homeschool Days most places because they are so crowded.  But at Historic Washington usually is not crowded and very relaxed and laid back.  It was not like that this time!! The line just to get tickets was down a hallway and out the door.  I really almost wanted to leave but we had driven over 40 minutes to get there and the children enjoy it (well most of them Nick and Alex do not really care anymore), so I gave the you will need to be patient and have good attitudes to everyone (including myself!).  After we got our wrist bands we went over to sign up for the surrey rides because they only do so many each time.  It was only 10:20 and they were booked until 3:30.  I took that slot it was the second to the last for the day.

But overall it was a good day.  They did not have the houses open like they usually do and if we had not been several times I would have been disappointed about that.  They did have several fun activities for children: candle dipping, braiding fabric for the start of a braided rug, making a print at the printing press, children's games, an outdoor cooking demonstration, weaving demonstration, a log cabin building talk, making a "God's eye", math worksheets, a sing along, plus touring the courthouse and schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, and weapon's museum.

Saturday morning Nick, Alex, and I went to work on the robot for the BEST robotics competition.

I hope you had a great week!

Happy Homeschooling!
