March Nature Seekers 4 H Meeting

For the last several years, Linda Goodner from Arkansas Game and Fish has come and presented a program for our club.  Some of the programs we have done in the past included: Arkansas furs, bears, turkeys, white tail deer, and endangered species.  This year she was supposed to come last month but it snowed and we had to cancel.  We rescheduled our meeting for yesterday.

One of the disadvantages of being a homeschool mom club leader is that I never know when there is something conflicting going on at the school, although I do try and keep up with Thanksgiving break, winter break, mid winter break, and spring break.  It seems a though yesterday was parent teacher conferences at the school and I didn't know but really I don't know if it would have changed anything as it was the only day of the month Linda was free and we had to have the meeting early so I could get my children to soccer.  We did have a few less children than we normally do but still ended up with 14 total including Emelia.  Luckily we were able to use the fellowship hall at my church because the EH house we usually use for meetings was not available.

Our program was on waterfowl.  I was quite impressed with how many things many of the children that attend the monthly programs at Grandview remembered about the different types of animals, how they are classified, and what kind of things make up animal habitats.  They learned about the difference between game birds and non game birds and the different types of each.  They learned about different types of waterfowl and things are required to hunt game birds.  They each got to become a different type of waterfowl bird.  They listened to some calls, and looked at some pictures of different types of waterfowl.  They also listened to a book called the Wetlands and got a sticker, bookmark, and either a book or a poster to take home.

About halfway through the meeting, Lily just did not look right. I know some of you mamas know what I mean.  Sometimes you can just tell by looking at your babies that they don't feel well.  She had been fine all day.  When I asked her if she was ok she said yes but her throat felt a little scratchy so I got her a cup of water. Then a few minutes later she said she had a headache.  Luckily the meeting was almost over and soccer had been cancelled because it was raining again.  I got her home and her temperature was 101.  She was sick in the middle of the night and still is not feeling wonderful today but hopefully tomorrow will be better!
