Review: Echoes of Mercy by Kim Vogel Sawyer
In Echoes of Mercy, Caroline Lang goes undercover as a factory worker to investigate a mysterious death and how the factory treats its employees, especially the children. While there, she meets Ollie Moore, who is the heir to the Dinsmore dynasty but in order to learn more about the inner workings of the factory is posing and working as a janitor. Caroline and Ollie become friends even though their opinions differ greatly on the role of children working in factories. When the fate of three children become their responsibility, it becomes harder and harder to keep their identities secret while they both continue on their search for the truth. Danger surrounds them all. Will they find out what really is going on before it is too late?
Kim Vogel Sawyer is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors of historical fiction. I loved this book! Kim Vogel Sawyer does an outstanding job drawing the reader into the story and transporting them back in time to 1904. I loved the characters in the story and the cat that it is written from the perspective of 3 main characters throughout the story: Caroline, Oliver, and Gordon. At the end we even get to see a bit from Letta's perspective as well. Even some of the "minor' characters in this story were amazing people that I really enjoyed reading about. I loved the characters of Kesia, Annamarie, and Noble. Caroline is a wonderful example of God, "using all things for good" as she uses her horrible experiences in her childhood to fight and work hard so other children will escape the same fate. Even Oliver, who grew up with everything, doesn't take it for granted. He is working in the factory to see what it is like and what steps he can take to ensure his family's business will continue to move on. Working in the factory, meeting Caroline and the children changes Ollie, even more so when he begins questioning and seeking a relationship with Jesus Christ. I loved the bit of mystery in the story and how it was resolved. The book was action packed and kept me page turning to the very end. I adored the ending but I am not going to say much about that so you can read it for yourself!
I highly recommend Echoes of Mercy and other books by Kim Vogel Sawyer.
