Schoolhouse Review Crew: A Thomas Jefferson Education

A Thomas Jefferson Education consists of helping each student discover, develop, and polish their inner genius.  The most successful learning comes when you have a true love affair with learning and desire to study long, hard, and effectively.  They teach that there are 7 keys to great teaching and when they are applied learning occurs.  They are:

  • Classics not textbooks
  • Mentors not professors
  • Inspire not require
  • Structure time not content
  • Quality not conformity
  • Simplicity not complexity
  • You not them
"TJEd gives you the “how” and the “why” to make the “what” more powerful, more memorable, more relevant to your children."

Over the last several weeks, we have had the opportunity to use and review a subscription to This Week In History.

This Week in History is one of those really neat resources that I wish I had heard about sooner.  One of the greatest things about This Week In History is that it is a resource that you can use however it best suits your family.  You may choose to do an activity/activities for every day of the week.  You may choose one thing that week and do an in depth study.  You may be a planner and prepare ahead of time everything you want to do weeks in advance, or (if you are like me) you can decide the day before or even that day that that is what you are going to do.  You can choose just to read the information on what happened on this day in history or you can go more in depth and answer discussion questions, view and print worksheets, or even do some hands on activities.  This Week in History provides a wealth of information on many different subjects and people.  Some of them you may know and some you may not have ever heard of.  There is such a variety of topics you will not be doing the same thing twice and there is something that will appeal to everyone.   My 10 year old was absolutely thrilled to see Tim Tebow while my 7 year old loved the stuff on Niagara Falls and my 8 year old was fascinated by the first car Ford ever built.
