4 H Mad Scientist Cloverbud Day Camp

In our county, Cloverbud 4 Hers (5-8 years old) can participate in just about every local activity as long as a parent can stay with them, unless it is something that a child that age really cannot do.  Most of the activities are geared toward older children so every year they try to have an activity day just for Cloverbuds, full of fun things for children in that age group.  This summer's Cloverbud Camp was a 3 hour Mad Scientist Camp that the children got to both view and work on several science experiments.  The children were split into groups and each group had a teen leader helper.  For each experiment that they did, the children talked about what they thought would happen and the teen helper wrote down their thoughts.  Then they worked together to make the experiments and see what kind of results they would get.  It was a jam packed 3 hours, although we did take a short snack break.  Some of the experiments we did were: color changing carnations, 7 layer density, biofuel blast, color changing milk, erupting diet coke, solar power heat, gravity (using parachutes), and radio active slime.  My crew, Chelsea, Christian, Anthony, Alex plus two tag along friends really liked the slime the best (Nick was too old and Lily a little young so they played at a friend's house.)  Most of the experiments turned out as expected except our carnations never did change color.  We had a great time at 4 H today and have another 4 H workshop on Thursday.
