Movie Review: Horton Hears A Who!

It was raining today, a lot! So as a special treat (and a way for my dad to have piece and quiet) Mom treated us to a movie. We went to see Horton Hears a Who. We are big fans of Dr. Seuss and have read the book several times. We loved the movie! The kids sat and watched and didn't make a sound (even Anthony 2 and Christian 1) It was a great movie that kids and adults both can enjoy. The kids all gave it 5 stars and told their Papa all about it when we got back.

  1. We just went to see that also with all our boys (and our 5). We like to catch the matinee when the 19 of us have the theater mostly to ourselves.

Glad you enjoyed it also. I was glad that the innuendos and borderline material in other recent Dr. Seuss films did not come into play in Horton. I agree, a good film for all to enjoy!

  2. I thought Horton Hears a Who was awful. The villain of the story (a kangaroo) is a controlling homeschool mom who constantly shoves her son into her pouch ("go to your room!", "This doesn't concern you"), covers his eyes, covers his ears, and warns against using imagination or playing with the 'jungle' kids ("That's why we're POUCH-schooling," she says snidely). Worse, she hires a vulture to viciously attack Horton.

Her son becomes a hero when he disobeys his mother.

  3. That is true, those things do happen in the movie, but the characterization of the kangaroo is just like she was in the book (maybe not exactly but pretty close) The monvie was very close to the book. And she does realize she was wrong at the end and is sorry for what she has done.
